2010 Season PhasesOur four phases of the season include tune-up/try-outs, pre-season games, regular season games and post-season/all stars. Based on our highly successful pre-season skills clinics in the past few years, we are once again offering tune-up clinics to hone your game prior to try-outs. Our clinics provide players with access to the league’s top coaching in specialty skills, offense, defense, base running and strategy. Tune-up clinics will be held at Belmont Sports Complex Baseball Field and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22rd. Any ballplayer already in our league or hoping to join our league is invited to attend, at a cost of $50 for the two-weekend session. Our try-outs for new players will be held at the Belmont Sports Complex at the Babe Ruth Field on Island Parkway on Sunday, January 10th and 17th, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please be at the field at 8:30 a.m. for warm-ups. All new players must try out. Players will be divided into small groups of 8-10 to complete four (4) phases of tryouts (outfield fly balls, ground balls at shortstop with throws to first base, hitting off a pitching machine, and timed base running). Try-Outs Rain Delay In the event of rain on the day of try-outs, we will schedule alternative dates. If needed, they will be held at Belmont Sports Complex during the same scheduled timeframe: 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Based on player availability, we will assemble tournament teams and offer an aggressive schedule of tournament baseball to all 13 and 14 year olds. These teams will have use of the league’s equipment, volunteer coaches and insurance coverage. Costs are nominal ($35-40 per tourney per player) and schedules will be made available on a separate flyer. Each team will play 16 games between May 15 and June 19. Dates are subject to modification as needed. We will continue our traditional double elimination tournament (June 20th – June 27th) to finish up the regular season, with a league-wide barbecue at the championship game. Our six-week season mirrors the length of the high school season. Like the high school teams, we ask that you avoid conflicts between your Babe Ruth team and other baseball programs during the season. This is a simple courtesy to your teammates and coaches. Absence from Babe Ruth baseball games due to participation in another baseball program may result in all star ineligibility. We will be forming our all star teams earlier this year and at that time will ask for a commitment from each prospective player. Please consider possible all star participation when making your summer plans. Teams from San Mateo have progressed to the second level (NorCal State Championships) in the previous three consecutive years. All stars can run through the end of July should one of our three teams (13’s, 14’s, 15’s) make it to Regionals.
