| Greetings Senior Babe Ruth Players (11/24/2009) |
Greetings Potential Senior Babe Ruth Players, and your Families, The BelMateo Babe Ruth League will offer a Senior program for the 2010 season. Players in this league are 16 to 18 years old. We are sending you this letter to get you thinking about next season and to see how many players might be interested. To be eligible to play in Senior Babe Ruth is as the follows. Any player born in 1991, 1992, and 1993 are eligible to play for Babe Ruth Baseball 16-18 Division; players born in January, February, March and April of 1994 must play in the 16-18 Division; players league age (15 by May 1 age-determination date) are eligible to be a swing players in the 16-18 Division, with local Board approval. The Senior Babe Ruth season would start after the high school baseball season is concluded, probably by the end of May. The number of games per week will vary but there may be as many as 4 games per week with some double headers on weekends. Senior Babe Ruth teams typically play 16 to 20 games per season. While it is not expected that players will be at every game, it is expected that players will commit to a majority of the games. There will be an opportunity to play in tournaments – some during the regular season and an all-star tournament at the end of the season. | To All Bel Mateo Parents and Players: The season is officially upon us. We will be starting games this weekend. There are a few teams that will not be able to play games this weekend because of roster issues at this time. Please be assured that these games will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Also, I would like to thank each and everyone for participating in this new league. We have finalized the season and we have worked closely with the school district regarding field usage, especially in San Mateo. Currently, the schedule is set, but do to some construction issues or roster shortages, some games may have to be moved to other fields or start times because of delays in construction. We hope to have all this resolved shortly. However, given the fluid nature of the schools, the new entity, Bel Mateo, we are still trying to improve things and pass information as rapidly as possible. I ask all of you to be patient with us in the interim period. As I have met most of you during your team meetings, please feel free to email or call me with any issues or concerns. Just like anything new, there are unexpected surprises that come up. However, our main goal is to provide your children with a great baseball experience and get them playing baseball. To returning families of Babe Ruth and new families of Babe Ruth; Dear Parents and Players: We are ready to get the 2010 season started and we welcome all the returning players, families and new players. Last season, with the merger of two leagues, into one league, we faced challenges as predicted. However, once the games started playing and our schedule was locked down, the season was a success. After reflecting on the 2009 season and meeting with the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the following proposed changes for 2010: -We implemented two clinics last year for all new incoming players. These clinics were a huge success and it gave the players an opportunity to work out on the field, as well as, see their peers perform on the field. Kids that were thinking the field was too big to play on realized that they could play on the field. These clinics will happen again. -With the merger of two leagues, we decided to have two divisions last season, after careful review and consideration, we will possibly eliminate one division and just have one division of ten teams. There are a number of positives that will come out of this, most notable the impact on our All-Stars. Implementing one division will allow the league the opportunity to put the best players on all-star teams. -The regular season may start sometime in May after the completion of the High School baseball season. All games will count in standings and take us up to the year-end tournament, then all-stars. This will allow the high school baseball athlete to play the entire regular season. This will allow for balanced competition for each team. -In addition, for those kids who are not in high school or did not make their high school baseball teams, we may implement a pre-season that will begin in April. This will allow kids, not actively playing baseball during the high school season to refine their skills and get ready for the start of the regular season. This will also help each player once the high school kids come back to play. -We are also working on streamlining our board duties to make a more efficient Board of Directors. If you are interested in participating with the Board, please get involved. The Board of Directors meets throughout the season and works toward improving the league and setting our budget. This is a volunteer organization and we can certainly use the help. In an ideal setting, I would like representation from many new and returning families involved in the league.
